Friday of Misericordias Domini (Easter 3)

First Reading: Ex. 39:32-40:16

 32Thus all the work of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting was completed; and the sons of Israel did according to all that the LORD had commanded Moses; so they did.

 33They brought the tabernacle to Moses, the tent and all its [a]furnishings: its clasps, its boards, its bars, and its pillars and its sockets;

 34and the covering of rams' skins dyed red, and the covering of porpoise skins, and the screening veil;

 35the ark of the testimony and its poles and the mercy seat;

 36the table, all its utensils, and the bread of the Presence;

 37the pure gold lampstand, with its arrangement of lamps and all its utensils, and the oil for the light;

 38and the gold altar, and the anointing oil and the fragrant incense, and the veil for the doorway of the tent;

 39the bronze altar and its bronze grating, its poles and all its utensils, the laver and its stand;

 40the hangings for the court, its pillars and its sockets, and the screen for the gate of the court, its cords and its pegs and all the equipment for the service of the tabernacle, for the tent of meeting;

 41the woven garments for ministering in the holy place and the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons, to minister as priests.

 42So the sons of Israel did all the work according to all that the LORD had commanded Moses.

 43And Moses examined all the work and behold, they had done it; just as the LORD had commanded, this they had done. So Moses (A)blessed them.

The Tabernacle Erected
 1Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

 2"(B)On the first day of the first month you shall set up the tabernacle of the tent of meeting.

 3"(C)You shall place the ark of the testimony there, and you shall screen the ark with the veil.

 4"You shall (D)bring in the table and (E)arrange what belongs on it; and you shall (F)bring in the lampstand and mount its lamps.

 5"Moreover, you shall (G)set the gold altar of incense before the ark of the testimony, and set up the veil for the doorway to the tabernacle.

 6"You shall set the altar of burnt offering in front of the doorway of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting.

 7"You shall (H)set the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it.

 8"You shall set up the court all around and hang up the veil for the gateway of the court.

 9"Then you shall take the anointing oil and (I)anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it, and shall consecrate it and all its furnishings; and it shall be holy.

 10"You shall anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and consecrate the altar, and (J)the altar shall be most holy.

 11"You shall anoint the laver and its stand, and consecrate it.

 12"Then you shall (K)bring Aaron and his sons to the doorway of the tent of meeting and wash them with water.

 13"(L)You shall put the holy garments on Aaron and anoint him and consecrate him, that he may minister as a priest to Me.

 14"You shall bring his sons and put tunics on them;

 15and you shall anoint them even as you have anointed their father, that they may minister as priests to Me; and their anointing will qualify them for a (M)perpetual priesthood throughout their generations."

 16Thus Moses did; according to all that the LORD had commanded him, so he did.

Second Reading: Lk. 8:22-39

Jesus Stills the Sea

 22(A)Now on one of those days Jesus and His disciples got into a boat, and He said to them, "Let us go over to the other side of (B)the lake." So they launched out.

 23But as they were sailing along He fell asleep; and a fierce gale of wind descended on (C)the lake, and they began to be swamped and to be in danger.

 24They came to Jesus and woke Him up, saying, "(D)Master, Master, we are perishing!" And He got up and (E)rebuked the wind and the surging waves, and they stopped, and it became calm.

 25And He said to them, "Where is your faith?" They were fearful and amazed, saying to one another, "Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him?"

The Demoniac Cured

 26(F)Then they sailed to the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee.

 27And when He came out onto the land, He was met by a man from the city who was possessed with demons; and who had not put on any clothing for a long time, and was not living in a house, but in the tombs.

 28Seeing Jesus, he cried out and fell before Him, and said in a loud voice, "(G)What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of (H)the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me."

 29For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it had seized him many times; and he was bound with chains and shackles and kept under guard, and yet he would break his bonds and be driven by the demon into the desert.

 30And Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" And he said, "(I)Legion"; for many demons had entered him.

 31They were imploring Him not to command them to go away into (J)the abyss.

 32Now there was a herd of many swine feeding there on the mountain; and the demons implored Him to permit them to enter the swine. And He gave them permission.

 33And the demons came out of the man and entered the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into (K)the lake and was drowned.

 34When the herdsmen saw what had happened, they ran away and reported it in the city and out in the country.

 35The people went out to see what had happened; and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting down (L)at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they became frightened.

 36Those who had seen it reported to them how the man who was (M)demon-possessed had been made well.

 37And all the people of the country of the Gerasenes and the surrounding district asked Him to leave them, for they were gripped with great fear; and He got into a boat and returned.

 38(N)But the man from whom the demons had gone out was begging Him that he might accompany Him; but He sent him away, saying,

 39"Return to your house and describe what great things God has done for you." So he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.
