Wednesday of Misericordias Domini (Easter 3)

First Reading: Ex. 34:29-35:21

Moses' Face Shines

 29It came about when Moses was coming down from Mount Sinai (and the (A)two tablets of the testimony were in Moses' hand as he was coming down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that (B)the skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him.

 30So when Aaron and all the sons of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone, and (C)they were afraid to come near him.

 31Then Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the rulers in the congregation returned to him; and Moses spoke to them.

 32Afterward all the sons of Israel came near, and he commanded them to do everything that the LORD had spoken to him on Mount Sinai.

 33When Moses had finished speaking with them, (D)he put a veil over his face.

 34But whenever Moses went in before the LORD to speak with Him, (E)he would take off the veil until he came out; and whenever he came out and spoke to the sons of Israel what he had been commanded,

 35(F)the sons of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face shone. So Moses would replace the veil over his face until he went in to speak with Him.

The Sabbath Emphasized

 1Then Moses assembled all the congregation of the sons of Israel, and said to them, "(G)These are the things that the LORD has commanded you to do:

 2"(H)For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day you shall have a holy day, (I)a sabbath of complete rest to the LORD; (J)whoever does any work on it shall be put to death.

 3"(K)You shall not kindle a fire in any of your dwellings on the sabbath day."

 4Moses spoke to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, saying, "This is the thing which the LORD has commanded, saying,

 5'(L)Take from among you a contribution to the LORD; whoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it as the LORD'S contribution: gold, silver, and bronze,

 6and blue, purple and scarlet material, fine linen, goats' hair,

 7and rams' skins dyed red, and porpoise skins, and acacia wood,

 8and oil for lighting, and spices for the anointing oil, and for the fragrant incense,

 9and onyx stones and setting stones for the ephod and for the breastpiece.

Tabernacle Workmen

 10'(M)Let every skillful man among you come, and make all that the LORD has commanded:

 11the (N)tabernacle, its tent and its covering, its hooks and its boards, its bars, its pillars, and its sockets;

 12the (O)ark and its poles, the mercy seat, and the curtain of the screen;

 13the (P)table and its poles, and all its utensils, and the bread of the [a]Presence;

 14the (Q)lampstand also for the light and its utensils and its lamps and the oil for the light;

 15and the (R)altar of incense and its poles, and the (S)anointing oil and the (T)fragrant incense, and the screen for the doorway at the entrance of the tabernacle;

 16(U)the altar of burnt offering with its bronze grating, its poles, and all its utensils, the basin and its stand;

 17(V)the hangings of the court, its pillars and its sockets, and the screen for the gate of the court;

 18the pegs of the tabernacle and the pegs of the court and their cords;

 19the (W)woven garments for ministering in the holy place, the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons, to minister as priests.'"

Gifts Received

 20Then all the congregation of the sons of Israel departed from Moses' presence.

 21(X)Everyone whose heart stirred him and everyone whose spirit moved him came and brought the LORD'S contribution for the work of the tent of meeting and for all its service and for the holy garments.

Second Reading: Lk. 7:36-50

 36Now one of the Pharisees was requesting Him to dine with him, and He entered the Pharisee's house and reclined at the table.

 37(A)And there was a woman in the city who was a sinner; and when she learned that He was reclining at the table in the Pharisee's house, she brought an alabaster vial of perfume,

 38and standing behind Him at His feet, weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears, and kept wiping them with the hair of her head, and kissing His feet and anointing them with the perfume.

 39Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself, "If this man were (B)a prophet He would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching Him, that she is a sinner."

Parable of Two Debtors
 40And Jesus answered him, "Simon, I have something to say to you." And he replied, "Say it, Teacher."

 41"A moneylender had two debtors: one owed five hundred [a](C)denarii, and the other fifty.

 42"When they (D)were unable to repay, he graciously forgave them both. So which of them will love him more?"

 43Simon answered and said, "I suppose the one whom he forgave more." And He said to him, "You have judged correctly."

 44Turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you (E)gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.

 45"You (F)gave Me no kiss; but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss My feet.

 46"(G)You did not anoint My head with oil, but she anointed My feet with perfume.

 47"For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little."

 48Then He said to her, "(H)Your sins have been forgiven."

 49Those who were reclining at the table with Him began to say to themselves, "(I)Who is this man who even forgives sins?"

 50And He said to the woman, "(J)Your faith has saved you; (K)go in peace."
