Friday of Quasimodo Geniti (Easter 2)

First Reading: Ex. 31:1-18

Oholiab and Bezalel
1The LORD said to Moses, 2"See, I have called by name(A) Bezalel the son of Uri, son of(B) Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3and I have(C) filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship, 4to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, 5in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in every craft. 6And behold, I have appointed with him(D) Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. And I have given to all able men(E) ability, that they may make all that I have commanded you: 7(F) the tent of meeting, and(G) the ark of the testimony, and(H) the mercy seat that is on it, and all the furnishings of the tent, 8(I) the table and its utensils, and(J) the pure lampstand with all its utensils, and(K) the altar of incense, 9and(L) the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and(M) the basin and its stand, 10and(N) the finely worked garments,[a] the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons, for their service as priests, 11and(O) the anointing oil and the fragrant(P) incense for the Holy Place. According to all that I have commanded you, they shall do."
The Sabbath
12And the LORD said to Moses, 13"You are to speak to the people of Israel and say, 'Above all you shall keep my Sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I, the LORD, sanctify you. 14You shall keep the Sabbath, because it is holy for you. Everyone who profanes it shall be put to death.(Q) Whoever does any work on it, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. 15(R) Six days shall work be done, but(S) the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the LORD.(T) Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day shall be put to death. 16Therefore the people of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, observing the Sabbath throughout their generations, as a covenant forever. 17(U) It is a sign forever between me and the people of Israel that(V) in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and(W) on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.'"

18And he gave to Moses, when he had finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai, the(X) two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written with(Y) the finger of God.

Second Reading: Lk. 6:1-19

Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath
1(A) On a Sabbath,[a] while he was going through the grainfields, his disciples(B) plucked and ate some heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands. 2But some of the Pharisees said,(C) "Why are you doing(D) what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?" 3And Jesus answered them, (E) "Have you not read(F) what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: 4how he entered the house of God and took and ate(G) the bread of the Presence, which is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those with him?" 5And he said to them, (H) "The Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath."
A Man with a Withered Hand
6On another Sabbath,(I) he entered the synagogue(J) and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was withered. 7And the scribes and the Pharisees(K) watched him, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath,(L) so that they might find a reason to accuse him. 8But(M) he knew their thoughts, and he said to the man with the withered hand, "Come and stand here." And he rose and stood there. 9And Jesus said to them, "I ask you,(N) is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it?" 10And(O) after looking around at them all he said to him, "Stretch out your hand." And(P) he did so, and his hand was restored. 11But they were filled with(Q) fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.
The Twelve Apostles
12In these days(R) he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God. 13And when day came,(S) he called his disciples(T) and(U) chose from them twelve, whom he named(V) apostles: 14Simon,(W) whom he named Peter, and(X) Andrew his brother, and James and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew, 15and(Y) Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called(Z) the Zealot, 16and(AA) Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
Jesus Ministers to a Great Multitude
17And(AB) he came down with them and stood on a level place, with(AC) a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of(AD) Tyre and Sidon, 18who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases.(AE) And those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. 19And all the crowd(AF) sought to touch him, for(AG) power came out from him and healed them all.
