St. Philip and St. James the Apostles
Almighty God, Your Son revealed himself to Philip and James and gave them the knowledge of everlasting life. Grant us perfectly to know Your Son Jesus Christ to be the Way, the Truth and the Life, and steadfastly to walk in the way that leads to eternal life; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Old Testament (LSB): Isaiah 30:18-21
God Is Gracious and Just
18Therefore the LORD (A)longs to be gracious to you,
And therefore He waits on (B)high to have compassion on you
For the LORD is a (C)God of justice;
How blessed are all those who (D)long for Him.
19O people in Zion, (E)
inhabitant in Jerusalem, you will (F)
weep no longer He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will (G)
20Although the Lord has given you (H)
bread of privation and water of oppression, He, your Teacher will no longer (I)
hide Himself, but your eyes will behold your Teacher.
21Your ears will hear a word behind you, "This is the (J)
way, walk in it," whenever you (K)
turn to the right or to the left. Cross references:

The Visit of the Magi
1Now after Jesus was (A)born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of (B)Herod the king, [a]magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying,
2"Where is He who has been born (C)
King of the Jews? For we saw (D)
His star in the east and have come to worship Him."
3When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born.
5They said to him, "(E)
In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet:
AND YOU, BETHLEHEM, LAND OF JUDAH,
ARE BY NO MEANS LEAST AMONG THE LEADERS OF JUDAH;
FOR OUT OF YOU SHALL COME FORTH A RULER
WHO WILL (G)
SHEPHERD MY PEOPLE ISRAEL.'"
7Then Herod secretly called the magi and determined from them the exact time (H)
the star appeared.
8And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and search carefully for the Child; and when you have found Him, report to me, so that I too may come and worship Him."
9After hearing the king, they went their way; and the star, which they had seen in the east, went on before them until it came and stood over the place where the Child was.
10When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.
11After coming into the house they saw the Child with (I)
Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and (J)
worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
12And having been (K)
warned by God (L)
in a dream not to return to Herod, the magi left for their own country by another way. Footnotes:
