Perpetua and Felicitas, Martyrs

First Reading: Gen. 1:20-2:3

20Then God said, "Let the waters teem with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the heavens."

21God created (A)the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good.

22God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth."

23There was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.

24(B)Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after their kind"; and it was so.

25God made the (C)beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good.

26Then God said, "Let (D)Us make (E)man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them (F)rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."

27God created man (G)in His own image, in the image of God He created him; (H)male and female He created them.

28God blessed them; and God said to them, "(I)Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

 29Then God said, "Behold, (J)I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you;

30and (K)to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, I have given every green plant for food"; and it was so.

31God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very (L)good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

The Creation of Man and Woman
1Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all (M)their hosts.

2By (N)the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and (O)He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

3Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

Jesus Preaches in Galilee

14(A)Now after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, (B)preaching the gospel of God,

15and saying, "(C)The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; (D)repent and believe in the gospel."

16(E)As He was going along by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen.

17And Jesus said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men."

18Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.

19Going on a little farther, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were also in the boat mending the nets.

20Immediately He called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went away to follow Him.

21(F)They went into Capernaum; and immediately on the Sabbath (G)He entered the synagogue and began to teach.

22(H)They were amazed at His teaching; for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

23Just then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,

24saying, "(I)What business do we have with each other, Jesus [a]of (J)Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are--(K)the Holy One of God!"

25And Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!"

26Throwing him into convulsions, the unclean spirit cried out with a loud voice and came out of him.

27They were all (L)amazed, so that they debated among themselves, saying, "What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him."

28Immediately the news about Him spread everywhere into all the surrounding district of Galilee.
