1Then(A) Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said:
2"Should(B) a wise man answer with(C) windy knowledge,
and fill his(D) belly with(E) the east wind? 3Should he argue in unprofitable talk,
or in words with which he can do no good? 4But you are doing away with the fear of God[a]
and hindering meditation before God. 5For your iniquity teaches your mouth,
and you choose the tongue of the crafty. 6Your(F) own mouth condemns you, and not I;
(G) your own lips testify against you.
30he will not depart from darkness;
the flame will dry up his shoots,
and by(A) the breath of his mouth he will depart. 31Let him not(B) trust in emptiness, deceiving himself,
for emptiness will be his payment. 32It will be paid in full(C) before his time,
and his branch will not be green. 33He will shake off his unripe grape like the vine,
and cast off his blossom like the olive tree. 34For(D) the company of the godless is barren,
and(E) fire consumes the tents of bribery. 35They(F) conceive trouble and give birth to evil,
and their(G) womb prepares deceit."
60(A) When many of his disciples heard it, they said, "This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?" 61But Jesus,(B) knowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, "Do you take offense at this? 62Then what if you were to see(C) the Son of Man(D) ascending to(E) where he was before? 63(F) It is the Spirit who gives life;(G) the flesh is no help at all.(H) The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64But(I) there are some of you who do not believe." (For Jesus(J) knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and(K) who it was who would betray him.) 65And he said, "This is why I told you(L) that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father."66(M) After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. 67So Jesus said to(N) the Twelve, "Do you want to go away as well?" 68Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have(O) the words of eternal life, 69and(P) we have believed, and have come to know, that(Q) you are(R) the Holy One of God." 70Jesus answered them, (S) "Did I not choose you,(T) the Twelve? And yet one of you is(U) a devil." 71He spoke of Judas(V) the son of Simon Iscariot, for(W) he, one of the Twelve, was going to betray him.Cross references:John 6:60 : John 6:66; John 6:64 John 6:61 : John 2:24, 25 John 6:62 : John 6:27 John 6:62 : Mark 16:19 John 6:62 : John 17:5; John 3:13 John 6:63 : 1 Cor 15:45; 2 Cor 3:6 John 6:63 : John 3:6 John 6:63 : John 6:68 John 6:64 : John 6:66 John 6:64 : John 6:61 John 6:64 : John 6:71; John 13:11 John 6:65 : John 6:44, 45; John 3:27 John 6:66 : John 6:60, 64 John 6:67 : John 6:70, 71 John 6:68 : Acts 5:20; John 12:50; 17:8 John 6:69 : John 11:27; 1 John 4:16 John 6:69 : John 1:49 John 6:69 : Mark 1:24 John 6:70 : John 13:18 John 6:70 : John 6:67 John 6:70 : John 13:2, 27; 17:12 John 6:71 : John 13:26 John 6:71 : John 6:64, 67
