1"(A)Behold, I am going to send (B)My messenger, and he will (C)clear the way before Me And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple; and the (D)messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold, He is coming," says the LORD of hosts.2"But who can (E)endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a (F)refiner's fire and like fullers' soap. 3"He will sit as a smelter and purifier of silver, and He will (G)purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, so that they may (H)present to the LORD offerings in righteousness. 4"Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be (I)pleasing to the LORD as in the (J)days of old and as in former years. 1The [a]burden of the word of the LORD concerning Israel. Thus declares the LORD who (A)stretches out the heavens, (B)lays the foundation of the earth, and (C)forms the spirit of man within him,2"Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a (D)cup that causes reeling to all the peoples around; and when the siege is against Jerusalem, it will also be against (E)Judah. 3"It will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy (F)stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be (G)severely injured And all the (H)nations of the earth will be gathered against it. 4"In that day," declares the LORD, "I will strike every horse with bewilderment and his rider with madness. But I will watch over the house of Judah, while I strike every horse of the peoples with blindness. 5"Then the clans of Judah will say in their hearts, 'A strong support for us are the inhabitants of Jerusalem through the LORD of hosts, their God.' 6"In that day I will make the clans of Judah like a (I)firepot among pieces of wood and a flaming torch among sheaves, so they will consume on the right hand and on the left all the surrounding peoples, while the (J)inhabitants of Jerusalem again dwell on their own sites in Jerusalem. 7"The LORD also will (K)save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of (L)David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem will not be magnified above Judah. 8"In that day the LORD will (M)defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the one who (N)is feeble among them in that day will be like David, and the house of David will be like (O)God, like the (P)angel of the LORD before them. 9"And in that day I will (Q)set about to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. 10"I will (R)pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have (S)pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one (T)mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn. 11"In that day there will be great (U)mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the plain of Megiddo. 12"The land will mourn, every family by itself; the family of the house of David by itself and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of Nathan by itself and their wives by themselves; 13the family of the house of Levi by itself and their wives by themselves; the family of the Shimeites by itself and their wives by themselves; 14all the families that remain, every family by itself and their wives by themselves.
1"In that day a (V)fountain will be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for (W)sin and for (X)impurity.2"It will come about in that day," declares the LORD of hosts, "that I will (Y)cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered; and I will also remove the (Z)prophets and the (AA)unclean spirit from the land. 3"And if anyone still (AB)prophesies, then his father and mother who gave birth to him will say to him, 'You shall (AC)not live, for you have spoken (AD)falsely in the name of the LORD'; and his (AE)father and mother who gave birth to him will pierce him through when he prophesies. 4"Also it will come about in that day that the prophets will each be (AF)ashamed of his vision when he prophesies, and they will not put on a (AG)hairy robe in order to deceive; 5but he will say, 'I am (AH)not a prophet; I am a tiller of the ground, for a man sold me as a slave in my youth.' 6"And one will say to him, 'What are these wounds (AI)between your arms?' Then he will say, 'Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.'
1Paul, (A)a bond-servant of God and an (B)apostle of Jesus Christ, for the faith of those (C)chosen of God and (D)the knowledge of the truth which is (E)according to godliness,2in (F)the hope of eternal life, which God, (G)who cannot lie, (H)promised (I)long ages ago, 3but (J)at the proper time manifested, even His word, in (K)the proclamation (L)with which I was entrusted (M)according to the commandment of (N)God our Savior, 4To (O)Titus, (P)my true child in a (Q)common faith: (R)Grace and peace from God the Father and (S)Christ Jesus our Savior.
5For this reason I left you in (T)Crete, that you would set in order what remains and (U)appoint (V)elders in every city as I directed you,6namely, (W)if any man is above reproach, the (X)husband of one wife, having children who believe, not accused of (Y)dissipation or (Z)rebellion. 7For the (AA)overseer must be above reproach as (AB)God's steward, not (AC)self-willed, not quick-tempered, not (AD)addicted to wine, not pugnacious, (AE)not fond of sordid gain, 8but (AF)hospitable, (AG)loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, self-controlled, 9(AH)holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in (AI)sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict. 10(AJ)For there are many (AK)rebellious men, (AL)empty talkers and deceivers, especially (AM)those of the circumcision, 11who must be silenced because they are upsetting (AN)whole families, teaching (AO)things they should not teach (AP)for the sake of sordid gain. 12One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, "(AQ)Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons." 13This testimony is true. For this reason (AR)reprove them (AS)severely so that they may be (AT)sound in the faith, 14not paying attention to Jewish (AU)myths and (AV)commandments of men who (AW)turn away from the truth. 15(AX)To the pure, all things are pure; but (AY)to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their (AZ)mind and their conscience are defiled. 16(BA)They profess to know God, but by their deeds they (BB)deny Him, being (BC)detestable and (BD)disobedient and (BE)worthless (BF)for any good deed.
1But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for (BG)sound doctrine.2(BH)Older men are to be (BI)temperate, dignified, sensible, (BJ)sound (BK)in faith, in love, in perseverance. 3Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, (BL)not malicious gossips nor (BM)enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, 4so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5to be sensible, pure, (BN)workers at home, kind, being (BO)subject to their own husbands, (BP)so that the word of God will not be dishonored. 6Likewise urge (BQ)the young men to be sensible; Cross references:Titus 1:1 : Rom 1:1; James 1:1; Rev 1:1 Titus 1:1 : 2 Cor 1:1 Titus 1:1 : Luke 18:7 Titus 1:1 : 1 Tim 2:4 Titus 1:1 : 1 Tim 6:3 Titus 1:2 : 2 Tim 1:1; Titus 3:7 Titus 1:2 : 2 Tim 2:13; Heb 6:18 Titus 1:2 : Rom 1:2 Titus 1:2 : 2 Tim 1:9 Titus 1:3 : 1 Tim 2:6 Titus 1:3 : Rom 16:25; 2 Tim 4:17 Titus 1:3 : 1 Tim 1:11 Titus 1:3 : 1 Tim 1:1 Titus 1:3 : Luke 1:47; 1 Tim 1:1; Titus 2:10; 3:4 Titus 1:4 : 2 Cor 2:13; 8:23; Gal 2:3; 2 Tim 4:10 Titus 1:4 : 2 Tim 1:2 Titus 1:4 : 2 Pet 1:1 Titus 1:4 : Rom 1:7 Titus 1:4 : 1 Tim 1:12; 2 Tim 1:1 Titus 1:5 : Acts 27:7; Titus 1:12 Titus 1:5 : Acts 14:23 Titus 1:5 : Acts 11:30 Titus 1:6 : 1 Tim 3:2-4; Titus 1:6-8 Titus 1:6 : 1 Tim 3:2 Titus 1:6 : Eph 5:18 Titus 1:6 : Titus 1:10 Titus 1:7 : 1 Tim 3:2 Titus 1:7 : 1 Cor 4:1 Titus 1:7 : 2 Pet 2:10 Titus 1:7 : 1 Tim 3:3 Titus 1:7 : 1 Tim 3:3, 8 Titus 1:8 : 1 Tim 3:2 Titus 1:8 : 2 Tim 3:3 Titus 1:9 : 2 Thess 2:15; 1 Tim 1:19; 2 Tim 1:13 Titus 1:9 : 1 Tim 1:10; Titus 2:1 Titus 1:10 : 2 Cor 11:13 Titus 1:10 : Titus 1:6 Titus 1:10 : 1 Tim 1:6 Titus 1:10 : Acts 11:2 Titus 1:11 : 1 Tim 5:4; 2 Tim 3:6 Titus 1:11 : 1 Tim 5:13 Titus 1:11 : 1 Tim 6:5 Titus 1:12 : Acts 2:11; 27:7 Titus 1:13 : 1 Tim 5:20; 2 Tim 4:2; Titus 2:15 Titus 1:13 : 2 Cor 13:10 Titus 1:13 : Titus 2:2 Titus 1:14 : 1 Tim 1:4 Titus 1:14 : Col 2:22 Titus 1:14 : 2 Tim 4:4 Titus 1:15 : Luke 11:41; Rom 14:20 Titus 1:15 : Rom 14:14, 23 Titus 1:15 : 1 Tim 6:5 Titus 1:16 : 1 John 2:4 Titus 1:16 : 1 Tim 5:8 Titus 1:16 : Rev 21:8 Titus 1:16 : Titus 3:3 Titus 1:16 : 2 Tim 3:8 Titus 1:16 : 2 Tim 3:17; Titus 3:1 Titus 2:1 : Titus 1:9 Titus 2:2 : Philem 9 Titus 2:2 : 1 Tim 3:2 Titus 2:2 : Titus 1:13 Titus 2:2 : 1 Tim 1:2, 14 Titus 2:3 : 1 Tim 3:11 Titus 2:3 : 1 Tim 3:8 Titus 2:5 : 1 Tim 5:14 Titus 2:5 : Eph 5:22 Titus 2:5 : 1 Tim 6:1 Titus 2:6 : 1 Tim 5:1
