1And the word of the LORD of hosts came, saying, 2"Thus says the LORD of hosts:(A) I am jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I am jealous for her with great wrath. 3Thus says the LORD:(B) I have returned to Zion and(C) will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem,(D) and Jerusalem shall be called the faithful city,(E) and the mountain of the LORD of hosts, the holy mountain. 4Thus says the LORD of hosts:(F) Old men and old women shall again sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each with staff in hand because of great age. 5And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in its streets. 6Thus says the LORD of hosts:(G) If it is marvelous in the sight of the remnant of this people in those days,(H) should it also be marvelous in my sight, declares the LORD of hosts? 7Thus says the LORD of hosts: behold,(I) I will save my people(J) from the east country and from the west country, 8and I will bring them to dwell in the midst of Jerusalem.(K) And they shall be my people, and I will be their God,(L) in faithfulness and in righteousness."9Thus says the LORD of hosts:(M) "Let your hands be strong, you who in these days have been hearing these words from the mouth of(N) the prophets who were present on(O) the day that the foundation of the house of the LORD of hosts was laid, that the temple might be built. 10For before those days(P) there was no wage for man or any wage for beast, neither was there any safety from the foe for him who went out or came in, for I set every man against his neighbor. 11But now I will not deal with the remnant of this people as in the former days, declares the LORD of hosts. 12(Q) For there shall be a sowing of peace. The vine shall give its fruit, and the ground shall give its produce,(R) and the heavens shall give their dew.(S) And I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things. 13And as(T) you have been a byword of cursing among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel,(U) so will I save you, and(V) you shall be a blessing.(W) Fear not, but(X) let your hands be strong." 14For thus says the LORD of hosts:(Y) "As I purposed to bring disaster to you when your fathers provoked me to wrath, and I did not relent, says the LORD of hosts, 15so again have I purposed in these days to bring good to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah;(Z) fear not. 16These are the things that you shall do:(AA) Speak the truth to one another;(AB) render in your gates judgments(AC) that are true and make for peace; 17(AD) do not devise evil in your hearts against one another, and(AE) love no false oath, for all these things I hate, declares the LORD." 18And the word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying, 19"Thus says the LORD of hosts: The fast of the(AF) fourth month and the fast of the(AG) fifth and the fast of the(AH) seventh and the fast of the(AI) tenth shall be to the house of Judah(AJ) seasons of joy and gladness and cheerful feasts. Therefore love(AK) truth and peace. 20"Thus says the LORD of hosts: Peoples shall yet come, even the inhabitants of many cities. 21The inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying,(AL) 'Let us go at once(AM) to entreat the favor of the LORD and to seek the LORD of hosts; I myself am going.' 22(AN) Many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem and(AO) to entreat the favor of the LORD. 23Thus says the LORD of hosts: In those days(AP) ten men(AQ) from the nations of every tongue shall take hold of the robe of a Jew, saying, 'Let us go with you, for(AR) we have heard that God is with you.'"Cross references:Zechariah 8:2 : Zechariah 1:14 Zechariah 8:3 : Zechariah 1:16 Zechariah 8:3 : Zechariah 2:10 Zechariah 8:3 : Isa 1:26 Zechariah 8:3 : Isa 2:3 Zechariah 8:4 : Psalm 128:6; Prov 10:27 Zechariah 8:6 : Psalm 118:23 Zechariah 8:6 : Gen 18:14 Zechariah 8:7 : Zechariah 10:6 Zechariah 8:7 : Psalm 107:3; Isa 43:5; Isa 49:12; Ezek 37:21 Zechariah 8:8 : Zechariah 13:9; Jer 31:33 Zechariah 8:8 : Jer 4:2 Zechariah 8:9 : 2 Sam 16:21; Hag 2:4 Zechariah 8:9 : Zechariah 7:3; Ezra 5:1, 2 Zechariah 8:9 : Hag 2:18 Zechariah 8:10 : Hag 1:6 Zechariah 8:12 : Hos 2:21, 22; Hag 2:19 Zechariah 8:12 : Hag 1:10 Zechariah 8:12 : Jer 3:18 Zechariah 8:13 : Isa 43:28; 65:15 Zechariah 8:13 : Zechariah 10:6 Zechariah 8:13 : Gen 12:2, 3 Zechariah 8:13 : Hag 2:5 Zechariah 8:13 : Zechariah 8:9 Zechariah 8:14 : Jer 31:28; 32:42 Zechariah 8:15 : Zechariah 8:13 Zechariah 8:16 : Cited Eph 4:25; Psalm 15:2 Zechariah 8:16 : Zechariah 7:9 Zechariah 8:16 : Zechariah 8:19 Zechariah 8:17 : Zechariah 7:10 Zechariah 8:17 : Zechariah 5:4 Zechariah 8:19 : Jer 39:2 Zechariah 8:19 : Zechariah 7:3 Zechariah 8:19 : Zechariah 7:5 Zechariah 8:19 : 2 Kgs 25:1 Zechariah 8:19 : Isa 35:10 Zechariah 8:19 : Zechariah 8:16 Zechariah 8:21 : Zechariah 2:11; 14:16; Isa 2:3 Zechariah 8:21 : Zechariah 7:2 Zechariah 8:22 : Zechariah 8:21 Zechariah 8:22 : Zechariah 8:21 Zechariah 8:23 : Gen 31:7 Zechariah 8:23 : Isa 66:18; Rev 5:9 Zechariah 8:23 : 1 Cor 14:25
1Paul,(A) an apostle of Christ Jesus(B) by the will of God according to(C) the promise of the life that is in Christ Jesus,2To Timothy,(D) my beloved child: (E) Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3(F) I thank God(G) whom I serve, as did my ancestors,(H) with a clear conscience, as I remember you(I) constantly in my prayers night and day. 4(J) As I remember your tears,(K) I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. 5I am reminded of(L) your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and(M) your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. 6For this reason I remind you(N) to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, 7for God gave us(O) a spirit not of fear but(P) of power and love and self-control.8Therefore(Q) do not be ashamed of(R) the testimony about our Lord, nor of(S) me his prisoner, but(T) share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, 9(U) who saved us and(V) called us to[a] a holy calling,(W) not because of our works but because of(X) his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,[b] 10and which now has(Y) been manifested through(Z) the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus,(AA) who abolished death and(AB) brought life and(AC) immortality to light through the gospel, 11(AD) for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, 12(AE) which is why I suffer as I do. But(AF) I am not ashamed, for(AG) I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until(AH) that Day(AI) what has been entrusted to me.[c] 13(AJ) Follow(AK) the pattern of(AL) the sound[d] words(AM) that you have heard from me, in(AN) the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14By the Holy Spirit(AO) who dwells within us, guard(AP) the good deposit entrusted to you. 15You are aware that(AQ) all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16May the Lord grant mercy to(AR) the household of Onesiphorus, for he often(AS) refreshed me and was not ashamed of(AT) my chains, 17but when he arrived in Rome(AU) he searched for me earnestly and found me— 18may the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on(AV) that Day!—and you well know all the service he(AW) rendered at Ephesus.Footnotes:2 Timothy 1:9 Or with 2 Timothy 1:9 Greek before times eternal 2 Timothy 1:12 Or what I have entrusted to him; Greek my deposit 2 Timothy 1:13 Or healthy
