God Deals Justly with Individuals
1Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
What do you mean by using this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying,
The fathers eat the sour grapes,
But the children's teeth are set on edge'?
3"As I live," declares the Lord GOD, "you are surely not going to use this proverb in Israel anymore.
all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine The soul who (D)
sins will die. Cross references:

19"Yet you say, '(A)
Why should the son not bear the punishment for the father's iniquity?' When the son has practiced (B)
justice and righteousness and has observed all My statutes and done them, he shall surely live.
20"The person who (C)
sins will die The (D)
son will not bear the punishment for the father's iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son's iniquity; the (E)
righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself.
21"But if the (F)
wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed and observes all My statutes and practices justice and righteousness, he shall surely live; he shall not die.
All his transgressions which he has committed will not be remembered against him; because of his (H)
righteousness which he has practiced, he will live.
Do I have any pleasure in the death of the wicked," declares the Lord GOD, "rather than that he should (J)
turn from his ways and live?
24"But when a righteous man (K)
turns away from his righteousness, commits iniquity and does according to all the abominations that a wicked man does, will he live? (L)
All his righteous deeds which he has done will not be remembered for his (M)
treachery which he has committed and his sin which he has committed; for them he will die.
25"Yet you say, '(N)
The way of the Lord is not right ' Hear now, O house of Israel! Is (O)
My way not right? Is it not your ways that are not right?
26"When a righteous man turns away from his righteousness, commits iniquity and dies because of it, for his iniquity which he has committed he will die.
27"Again, when a wicked man turns away (P)
from his wickedness which he has committed and practices justice and righteousness, he will save his life.
28"Because he considered and turned away from all his transgressions which he had committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die.
29"But the house of Israel says, 'The way of the Lord is not right.' Are My ways not right, O house of Israel? Is it not your ways that are not right?
30"Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, each according to his conduct," declares the Lord GOD. "(Q)
Repent and turn away from all your transgressions, so that iniquity may not become a stumbling block to you.
Cast away from you all your transgressions which you have committed and make yourselves a (S)
new heart and a new spirit! For why will you die, O house of Israel?
32"For I have (T)
no pleasure in the death of anyone who dies," declares the Lord GOD. "Therefore, repent and live." Cross references:

The Jew Is Condemned by the Law
17But if you bear the name "Jew" and (A)rely upon the Law and boast in God,
18and know His will and (B)
approve the things that are essential, being instructed out of the Law,
19and are confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,
20a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of the immature, having in the Law (C)
the embodiment of knowledge and of the truth,
21you, therefore, (D)
who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that one shall not steal, do you steal?
22You who say that one should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you (E)
23You who (F)
boast in the Law, through your breaking the Law, do you dishonor God?
THE NAME OF GOD IS BLASPHEMED AMONG THE GENTILES (H)
BECAUSE OF YOU," just as it is written.
25For indeed circumcision is of value if you (I)
practice the Law; but if you are a transgressor of the Law, (J)
your circumcision has become uncircumcision.
So if (L)
the uncircumcised man (M)
keeps the requirements of the Law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision?
he who is physically uncircumcised, if he keeps the Law, will he not (O)
judge you who though having the letter of the Law and circumcision are a transgressor of the Law?
he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh.
he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and (R)
circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the (S)
Spirit, not by the letter; (T)
and his praise is not from men, but from God. Cross references:
