1Listen to Me, O (A)islands,
And pay attention, you peoples from afar
(B)The LORD called Me from the womb;
From the body of My mother He named Me.
2He has made My (C)mouth like a sharp sword,
In the (D)shadow of His hand He has concealed Me;
And He has also made Me a select (E)arrow,
He has hidden Me in His quiver.
3He said to Me, "(F)You are My Servant, Israel,
(G)In Whom I will show My glory."
4But I said, "I have (H)toiled in vain,
I have spent My strength for nothing and vanity;
Yet surely the justice due to Me is with the LORD,
And My (I)reward with My God."
5And now says (J)the LORD, who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant,
To bring Jacob back to Him, so that (K)Israel might be gathered to Him
(For I am (L)honored in the sight of the LORD,
And My God is My (M)strength),
6He says, "It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant
To raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the (N)preserved ones of Israel;
I will also make You a (O)light of the nations
So that My salvation may reach to the (P)end of the earth."
7Thus says the LORD, the (Q)Redeemer of Israel and its Holy One,
To the (R)despised One,
To the One abhorred by the nation,
To the Servant of rulers,
"(S)Kings will see and arise,
Princes will also (T)bow down,
Because of the LORD who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel who has chosen You."
1"(A)Arise, shine; for your (B)light has come,
And the (C)glory of the LORD has risen upon you.
2"For behold, (D)darkness will cover the earth
And deep darkness the peoples;
But the LORD will rise upon you
And His (E)glory will appear upon you.
3"(F)Nations will come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.
4"(G)Lift up your eyes round about and see;
They all gather together, they (H)come to you
Your sons will come from afar,
And your (I)daughters will be carried in the arms.
5"Then you will see and be (J)radiant,
And your heart will thrill and rejoice;
Because the (K)abundance of the sea will be turned to you,
The (L)wealth of the nations will come to you.
6"A multitude of camels will cover you,
The young camels of Midian and (M)Ephah;
All those from (N)Sheba will come;
They will bring (O)gold and frankincense,
And will (P)bear good news of the praises of the LORD.
1Now after Jesus was (A)born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of (B)Herod the king, [a]magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying,2"Where is He who has been born (C)King of the Jews? For we saw (D)His star in the east and have come to worship Him." 3When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. 5They said to him, "(E)In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet:
1(A)Sing to the LORD a (B)new song;
Sing to the LORD, all the earth.
2Sing to the LORD, bless His name;
(C)Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day.
3Tell of (D)His glory among the nations,
His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.
4For (E)great is the LORD and (F)greatly to be praised;
He is to be (G)feared (H)above all gods.
5For (I)all the gods of the peoples are idols,
But (J)the LORD made the heavens.
6(K)Splendor and majesty are before Him,
Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.
7[a]Ascribe to the LORD, O (L)families of the peoples,
(M)Ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
8[b]Ascribe to the LORD the (N)glory of His name;
Bring an (O)offering and come into His courts.
9(P)Worship the LORD in [c]holy attire;
(Q)Tremble before Him, all the earth.
10Say among the nations, "(R)The LORD reigns;
Indeed, the (S)world is firmly established, it will not be moved;
He will (T)judge the peoples with [d]equity."
11Let the (U)heavens be glad, and let the (V)earth rejoice;
Let (W)the sea roar, and all it contains;
12Let the (X)field exult, and all that is in it
Then all the (Y)trees of the forest will sing for joy
13Before the LORD, (Z)for He is coming,
For He is coming to judge the earth
(AA)He will judge the world in righteousness
And the peoples in His faithfulness.
1Thus says the LORD,
"(A)Heaven is My throne and the earth is My footstool
Where then is a (B)house you could build for Me?
And where is a place that I may rest?
2"For (C)My hand made all these things,
Thus all these things came into being," declares the LORD
"But to this one I will look,
To him who is humble and (D)contrite of spirit, and who (E)trembles at My word.
3"But he who kills an ox is like one who slays a man;
He who sacrifices a lamb is like the one who breaks a dog's neck;
He who offers a grain offering is like one who offers (F)swine's blood;
He who (G)burns incense is like the one who blesses an idol
As they have chosen their (H)own ways,
And their soul delights in their (I)abominations,
4So I will (J)choose their punishments
And will (K)bring on them what they dread
Because I called, but (L)no one answered;
I spoke, but they did not listen
And they did (M)evil in My sight
And chose that in which I did not delight."
5Hear the word of the LORD, you who (N)tremble at His word:
"Your brothers who (O)hate you, who (P)exclude you for My name's sake,
Have said, 'Let the LORD be glorified, that we may see your joy '
But (Q)they will be put to shame.
6"A voice of uproar from the city, a voice from the temple,
The voice of the LORD who is (R)rendering recompense to His enemies.
7"Before she travailed, (S)she brought forth;
Before her pain came, (T)she gave birth to a boy.
8"(U)Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things?
Can a land be born in one day?
Can a nation be brought forth all at once?
As soon as Zion travailed, she also brought forth her sons.
9"Shall I bring to the point of birth and (V)not give delivery?" says the LORD.
"Or shall I who gives delivery shut the womb?" says your God.
10"Be (W)joyful with Jerusalem and rejoice for her, all you who (X)love her;
Be exceedingly (Y)glad with her, all you who mourn over her,
11That you may nurse and (Z)be satisfied with her comforting breasts,
That you may suck and be delighted with her (AA)bountiful bosom."
12For thus says the LORD, "Behold, I extend (AB)peace to her like a river,
And the (AC)glory of the nations like an overflowing stream;
And you will be nursed, you will be (AD)carried on the hip and fondled on the knees.
13"As one whom his mother comforts, so I will (AE)comfort you;
And you will be comforted in Jerusalem."
14Then you will (AF)see this, and your (AG)heart will be glad,
And your (AH)bones will flourish like the new grass;
And the (AI)hand of the LORD will be made known to His servants,
But He will be (AJ)indignant toward His enemies.
15For behold, the LORD will come in (AK)fire
And His (AL)chariots like the whirlwind,
To render His anger with fury,
And His rebuke with flames of fire.
16For the LORD will execute judgment by (AM)fire
And by His (AN)sword on all flesh,
And those slain by the LORD will be many.
17"Those who sanctify and purify themselves to go to the (AO)gardens,
Following one in the center,
Who eat (AP)swine's flesh, detestable things and mice,
Will (AQ)come to an end altogether," declares the LORD.
1Give the king (A)Your judgments, O God,
And (B)Your righteousness to the king's son.
2May he (C)judge Your people with righteousness
And [a](D)Your afflicted with justice.
3Let the mountains bring (E)peace to the people,
And the hills, in righteousness.
4May he (F)vindicate the afflicted of the people,
Save the children of the needy
And crush the oppressor.
5Let them fear You (G)while the sun endures,
And as long as the moon, throughout all generations.
6May he come down (H)like rain upon the mown grass,
Like (I)showers that water the earth.
7In his days may the (J)righteous flourish,
And (K)abundance of peace till the moon is no more.
8May he also rule (L)from sea to sea
And from the River to the ends of the earth.
9Let (M)the nomads of the desert (N)bow before him,
And his enemies (O)lick the dust.
10Let the kings of (P)Tarshish and of the (Q)islands bring presents;
The kings of (R)Sheba and (S)Seba (T)offer gifts.
11And let all (U)kings bow down before him,
All (V)nations serve him.
12For he will (W)deliver the needy when he cries for help,
The afflicted also, and him who has no helper.
13He will have (X)compassion on the poor and needy,
And the lives of the needy he will save.
14He will (Y)rescue their life from oppression and violence,
And their blood will be (Z)precious in his sight;
15So may he live, and may the (AA)gold of Sheba be given to him;
And let them pray for him continually;
Let them bless him all day long.
16May there be abundance of grain in the earth on top of the mountains;
Its fruit will wave like the cedars of (AB)Lebanon;
And may those from the city flourish like (AC)vegetation of the earth.
17May his (AD)name endure forever;
May his name increase (AE)as long as the sun shines;
And let men (AF)bless themselves by him;
(AG)Let all nations call him blessed.
18(AH)Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel,
Who alone (AI)works wonders.
19And blessed be His (AJ)glorious name forever;
And may the whole (AK)earth be filled with His glory
(AL)Amen, and Amen.
20The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.
21(A)Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was (B)praying, heaven was opened,22and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, "(C)You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased."
