22Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,23"Speak to Aaron and to his sons, saying, 'Thus (A)you shall bless the sons of Israel. You shall say to them:
1"Ho! Every one who (A)thirsts, come to the waters;
And you who have (B)no money come, buy and eat
Come, buy (C)wine and milk
(D)Without money and without cost.
2"Why do you spend money for what is (E)not bread,
And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and (F)eat what is good,
And (G)delight yourself in abundance.
3"(H)Incline your ear and come to Me
Listen, that you may (I)live;
And I will make (J)an everlasting covenant with you,
According to the (K)faithful mercies shown to David.
4"Behold, I have made (L)him a witness to the peoples,
A (M)leader and commander for the peoples.
5"Behold, you will call a (N)nation you do not know,
And a nation which knows you not will (O)run to you,
Because of the LORD your God, even the Holy One of Israel;
For He has (P)glorified you."
6(Q)Seek the LORD while He may be found;
(R)Call upon Him while He is near.
7(S)Let the wicked forsake his way
And the unrighteous man his (T)thoughts;
And let him (U)return to the LORD,
And He will have (V)compassion on him,
And to our God,
For He will (W)abundantly pardon.
8"For My thoughts are not (X)your thoughts,
Nor are (Y)your ways My ways," declares the LORD.
9"For (Z)as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
10"For as the (AA)rain and the snow come down from heaven,
And do not return there without watering the earth
And making it bear and sprout,
And furnishing (AB)seed to the sower and bread to the eater;
11So will My (AC)word be which goes forth from My mouth;
It will (AD)not return to Me empty,
Without (AE)accomplishing what I desire,
And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.
12"For you will go out with (AF)joy
And be led forth with (AG)peace;
The (AH)mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you,
And all the (AI)trees of the field will clap their hands.
13"Instead of the (AJ)thorn bush the (AK)cypress will come up,
And instead of the (AL)nettle the myrtle will come up,
And it will be a (AM)memorial to the LORD,
For an everlasting (AN)sign which (AO)will not be cut off."
21And when (A)eight days had passed, before His circumcision, (B)His name was then called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.Cross references:Luke 2:21 : Gen 17:12; Lev 12:3; Luke 1:59 Luke 2:21 : Matt 1:21, 25; Luke 1:31
1I was glad when they said to me,
"Let us (A)go to the house of the LORD."
2Our feet are standing
Within your (B)gates, O Jerusalem,
3Jerusalem, that is (C)built
As a city that is (D)compact together;
4To which the tribes (E)go up, even the tribes of the LORD--
An ordinance for Israel--
To give thanks to the name of the LORD.
5For there (F)thrones were set for judgment,
The thrones of the house of David.
6Pray for the (G)peace of Jerusalem:
"May they prosper who (H)love you.
7"May peace be within your (I)walls,
And prosperity within your (J)palaces."
8For the sake of my (K)brothers and my friends,
I will now say, "(L)May peace be within you."
9For the sake of the house of the LORD our God,
I will (M)seek your good.
1Give the king (A)Your judgments, O God,
And (B)Your righteousness to the king's son.
2May he (C)judge Your people with righteousness
And [a](D)Your afflicted with justice.
3Let the mountains bring (E)peace to the people,
And the hills, in righteousness.
4May he (F)vindicate the afflicted of the people,
Save the children of the needy
And crush the oppressor.
5Let them fear You (G)while the sun endures,
And as long as the moon, throughout all generations.
6May he come down (H)like rain upon the mown grass,
Like (I)showers that water the earth.
7In his days may the (J)righteous flourish,
And (K)abundance of peace till the moon is no more.
8May he also rule (L)from sea to sea
And from the River to the ends of the earth.
9Let (M)the nomads of the desert (N)bow before him,
And his enemies (O)lick the dust.
10Let the kings of (P)Tarshish and of the (Q)islands bring presents;
The kings of (R)Sheba and (S)Seba (T)offer gifts.
11And let all (U)kings bow down before him,
All (V)nations serve him.
12For he will (W)deliver the needy when he cries for help,
The afflicted also, and him who has no helper.
13He will have (X)compassion on the poor and needy,
And the lives of the needy he will save.
14He will (Y)rescue their life from oppression and violence,
And their blood will be (Z)precious in his sight;
15So may he live, and may the (AA)gold of Sheba be given to him;
And let them pray for him continually;
Let them bless him all day long.
16May there be abundance of grain in the earth on top of the mountains;
Its fruit will wave like the cedars of (AB)Lebanon;
And may those from the city flourish like (AC)vegetation of the earth.
17May his (AD)name endure forever;
May his name increase (AE)as long as the sun shines;
And let men (AF)bless themselves by him;
(AG)Let all nations call him blessed.
18(AH)Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel,
Who alone (AI)works wonders.
19And blessed be His (AJ)glorious name forever;
And may the whole (AK)earth be filled with His glory
(AL)Amen, and Amen.
20The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.
1The (A)Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me,
Because the LORD has anointed me
To (B)bring good news to the (C)afflicted;
He has sent me to (D)bind up the brokenhearted,
To (E)proclaim liberty to captives
And freedom to prisoners;
2To (F)proclaim the favorable year of the LORD
And the (G)day of vengeance of our God;
To (H)comfort all who mourn,
3To (I)grant those who mourn in Zion,
Giving them a garland instead of ashes,
The (J)oil of gladness instead of mourning,
The mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting
So they will be called (K)oaks of righteousness,
The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.
4Then they will (L)rebuild the ancient ruins,
They will raise up the former devastations;
And they will repair the ruined cities,
The desolations of many generations.
5(M)Strangers will stand and pasture your flocks,
And foreigners will be your farmers and your vinedressers.
6But you will be called the (N)priests of the LORD;
You will be spoken of as (O)ministers of our God
You will eat the (P)wealth of nations,
And in their riches you will boast.
7Instead of your (Q)shame you will have a (R)double portion,
And instead of humiliation they will shout for joy over their portion
Therefore they will possess a double portion in their land,
(S)Everlasting joy will be theirs.
8For I, the LORD, (T)love justice,
I hate robbery in the burnt offering;
And I will faithfully give them their recompense
And make an (U)everlasting covenant with them.
9Then their offspring will be known among the nations,
And their descendants in the midst of the peoples.
All who see them will recognize them
Because they are the (V)offspring whom the LORD has blessed.
10I will (W)rejoice greatly in the LORD,
My soul will exult in (X)my God;
For He has (Y)clothed me with garments of salvation,
He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness,
As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland,
And (Z)as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11For as the (AA)earth brings forth its sprouts,
And as a garden causes the things sown in it to spring up,
So the Lord GOD will (AB)cause (AC)righteousness and praise
To spring up before all the nations.
1Lord, You have been our [a](A)dwelling place in all generations.
2Before (B)the mountains were born
Or You (C)gave birth to the earth and the world,
Even (D)from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
3You (E)turn man back into dust
And say, "Return, O children of men."
4For (F)a thousand years in Your sight
Are like (G)yesterday when it passes by,
Or as a (H)watch in the night.
5You (I)have swept them away like a flood, they (J)fall asleep;
In the morning they are like (K)grass which sprouts anew.
6In the morning it (L)flourishes and sprouts anew;
Toward evening it (M)fades and (N)withers away.
7For we have been (O)consumed by Your anger
And by Your wrath we have been dismayed.
8You have (P)placed our iniquities before You,
Our (Q)secret sins in the light of Your presence.
9For (R)all our days have declined in Your fury;
We have finished our years like a sigh.
10As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years,
Or if due to strength, (S)eighty years,
Yet their pride is but (T)labor and sorrow;
For soon it is gone and we (U)fly away.
11Who understands the (V)power of Your anger
And Your fury, according to the (W)fear that is due You?
12So (X)teach us to number our days,
That we may (Y)present to You a heart of wisdom.
13Do (Z)return, O LORD; (AA)how long will it be?
And be (AB)sorry for Your servants.
14O (AC)satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness,
That we may (AD)sing for joy and be glad all our days.
15(AE)Make us glad according to the days You have afflicted us,
And the (AF)years we have seen [b]evil.
16Let Your (AG)work appear to Your servants
And Your (AH)majesty to their children.
17Let the (AI)favor of the Lord our God be upon us;
And [c](AJ)confirm for us the work of our hands;
Yes, confirm the work of our hands.
1(A)Not to us, O LORD, not to us,
But (B)to Your name give glory
Because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth.
2(C)Why should the nations say,
"(D)Where, now, is their God?"
3But our (E)God is in the heavens;
He (F)does whatever He pleases.
4Their (G)idols are silver and gold,
The (H)work of man's hands.
5They have mouths, but they (I)cannot speak;
They have eyes, but they cannot see;
6They have ears, but they cannot hear;
They have noses, but they cannot smell;
7They have hands, but they cannot feel;
They have feet, but they cannot walk;
They cannot make a sound with their throat.
8(J)Those who make them will become like them,
Everyone who trusts in them.
9O (K)Israel, (L)trust in the LORD;
He is their (M)help and their shield.
10O house of (N)Aaron, trust in the LORD;
He is their help and their shield.
11You who [a](O)fear the LORD, trust in the LORD;
He is their help and their shield.
12The LORD (P)has been mindful of us; He will bless us;
He will bless the house of Israel;
He will bless the house of Aaron.
13He will (Q)bless those who [b]fear the LORD,
(R)The small together with the great.
14May the LORD (S)give you increase,
You and your children.
15May you be blessed of the LORD,
(T)Maker of heaven and earth.
16The heavens are (U)the heavens of the LORD,
But (V)the earth He has given to the sons of men.
17The (W)dead do not praise the LORD,
Nor do any who go down into (X)silence;
18But as for us, we will (Y)bless the LORD
From this time forth and forever.
Praise the LORD!
57Now the time had come for Elizabeth to give birth, and she gave birth to a son.58Her neighbors and her relatives heard that the Lord had (A)displayed His great mercy toward her; and they were rejoicing with her. 59And it happened that on (B)the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to call him Zacharias, after his father. 60But his mother answered and said, "No indeed; but (C)he shall be called John." 61And they said to her, "There is no one among your relatives who is called by that name." 62And they (D)made signs to his father, as to what he wanted him called. 63And he asked for a tablet and wrote as follows, "(E)His name is John." And they were all astonished. 64(F)And at once his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he began to speak in praise of God. 65Fear came on all those living around them; and all these matters were being talked about in all (G)the hill country of Judea. 66All who heard them kept them in mind, saying, "What then will this child turn out to be?" For (H)the hand of the Lord was certainly with him.
67And his father Zacharias (I)was filled with the Holy Spirit, and (J)prophesied, saying:
68"(K)Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
For He has visited us and accomplished (L)redemption for His people,
69And has raised up a (M)horn of salvation for us
In the house of David (N)His servant--
70(O)As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets (P)from of old--
71(Q)Salvation (R)FROM OUR ENEMIES,
And FROM THE HAND OF ALL WHO HATE US;
72(S)To show mercy toward our fathers,
(T)And to remember His holy covenant,
73(U)The oath which He swore to Abraham our father,
74To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies,
Might serve Him without fear,
75(V)In holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.
76"And you, child, will be called the (W)prophet of (X)the Most High;
For you will go on (Y)BEFORE THE LORD TO (Z)PREPARE HIS WAYS;
77To give to His people the knowledge of salvation
By (AA)the forgiveness of their sins,
78Because of the tender mercy of our God,
With which (AB)the Sunrise from on high will visit us,
79(AC)TO SHINE UPON THOSE WHO SIT IN DARKNESS AND THE SHADOW OF DEATH,
To guide our feet into the (AD)way of peace."
