Daniel the Prophet and the Three Young Men

First Reading: Is. 33:1-24

The Judgment of God
    1Woe (A)to you, O destroyer,
         While you were not destroyed;
         And he (B)who is treacherous, while others did not deal treacherously with him
         As soon as you finish destroying, (C)you will be destroyed;
         As soon as you cease to deal treacherously, others will (D)deal treacherously with you.
    2O LORD, (E)be gracious to us; we have (F)waited for You
         Be their (G)strength every morning,
         Our salvation also in the (H)time of distress.
    3At the sound of the tumult (I)peoples flee;
         At the (J)lifting up of Yourself nations disperse.
    4Your spoil is gathered as the caterpillar gathers;
         As locusts rushing about men rush about on it.
    5The LORD is (K)exalted, for He dwells on high;
         He has (L)filled Zion with justice and righteousness.
    6And He will be the (M)stability of your times,
         A (N)wealth of salvation, wisdom and (O)knowledge;
         The (P)fear of the LORD is his treasure.
    7Behold, their brave men cry in the streets,
         The (Q)ambassadors of peace weep bitterly.
    8The highways are desolate, the (R)traveler has ceased,
         He has (S)broken the covenant, he has despised the cities,
         He has no regard for man.
    9(T)The land mourns and pines away,
         (U)Lebanon is shamed and withers;
         (V)Sharon is like a desert plain,
         And Bashan and Carmel lose their foliage.
    10"Now (W)I will arise," says the LORD,
         "Now I will be exalted, now I will be lifted up.
    11"You have (X)conceived chaff, you will give birth to stubble;
         My (Y)breath will consume you like a fire.
    12"The peoples will be burned to lime,
         (Z)Like cut thorns which are burned in the fire.
    13"You who are far away, (AA)hear what I have done;
         And you who are near, acknowledge My might."
    14(AB)Sinners in Zion are terrified;
         (AC)Trembling has seized the godless
         "Who among us can live with (AD)the consuming fire?
         Who among us can live with continual (AE)burning?"
    15He who (AF)walks righteously and speaks with sincerity,
         He who rejects unjust gain
         And shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe;
         He who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed
         And (AG)shuts his eyes from looking upon evil;
    16He will dwell on the heights,
         (AH)His refuge will be the impregnable rock;
         (AI)His bread will be given him,
         His water will be sure.
    17Your eyes will see (AJ)the King in His beauty;
         They will behold (AK)a far-distant land.
    18Your heart will meditate on (AL)terror:
         "Where is (AM)he who counts?
         Where is he who weighs?
         Where is he who counts the towers?"
    19You will no longer see a fierce people,
         A people of (AN)unintelligible speech which no one comprehends,
         Of a stammering tongue which no one understands.
    20(AO)Look upon Zion, the city of our appointed feasts;
         Your eyes will see Jerusalem, an (AP)undisturbed habitation,
         (AQ)A tent which will not be folded;
         Its stakes will never be pulled up,
         Nor any of its cords be torn apart.
    21But there the majestic One, the LORD, will be for us
         A place of (AR)rivers and wide canals
         On which no boat with oars will go,
         And on which no mighty ship will pass--
    22For the LORD is our (AS)judge,
         The LORD is (AT)our lawgiver,
         The LORD is (AU)our king;
         (AV)He will save us--
    23Your tackle hangs slack;
         It cannot hold the base of its mast firmly,
         Nor spread out the sail.
         Then the (AW)prey of an abundant spoil will be divided;
         (AX)The lame will take the plunder.
    24And no resident will say, "I am (AY)sick";
         The people who dwell there will be (AZ)forgiven their iniquity.

Second Reading: Rev. 5:1-14

The Book with Seven Seals
 1I saw in the right hand of Him who (A)sat on the throne a (B)book written inside and on the back, (C)sealed up with seven seals.

 2And I saw a (D)strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the book and to break its seals?"

 3And no one (E)in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the book or to look into it.

 4Then I began to weep greatly because no one was found worthy to open the book or to look into it;

 5and one of the elders said to me, "Stop weeping; behold, the (F)Lion that is (G)from the tribe of Judah, the (H)Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals."

 6And I saw [a]between the throne (with the four living creatures) and (I)the elders a (J)Lamb standing, as if (K)slain, having seven (L)horns and (M)seven eyes, which are (N)the seven Spirits of God, sent out into all the earth.

 7And He came and took (O)the book out of the right hand of Him who (P)sat on the throne.

 8When He had taken the book, the (Q)four living creatures and the (R)twenty-four elders (S)fell down before the (T)Lamb, each one holding a (U)harp and (V)golden bowls full of incense, which are the (W)prayers of the saints.

 9And they sang a (X)new song, saying, "(Y)Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were (Z)slain, and (AA)purchased for God with Your blood men from (AB)every tribe and tongue and people and nation.

 10"You have made them to be a (AC)kingdom and (AD)priests to our God; and they will (AE)reign upon the earth."

Angels Exalt the Lamb
 11Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels (AF)around the throne and the (AG)living creatures and the (AH)elders; and the number of them was (AI)myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands,

 12saying with a loud voice, "(AJ)Worthy is the (AK)Lamb that was (AL)slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing."

 13And (AM)every created thing which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all things in them, I heard saying, "To Him who (AN)sits on the throne, and to the (AO)Lamb, (AP)be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever."

 14And the (AQ)four living creatures kept saying, "(AR)Amen " And the (AS)elders (AT)fell down and worshiped.
