1Now (A)the boy Samuel was ministering to the LORD before Eli And (B)word from the LORD was rare in those days, visions were infrequent.2It happened at that time as Eli was lying down in his place (now (C)his eyesight had begun to grow dim and he could not see well), 3and (D)the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD where the ark of God was, 4that the LORD called Samuel; and he said, "(E)Here I am." 5Then he ran to Eli and said, "Here I am, for you called me." But he said, "I did not call, lie down again." So he went and lay down. 6The LORD called yet again, "Samuel!" So Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, "Here I am, for you called me." But he answered, "I did not call, my son, lie down again." 7(F)Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, nor had the word of the LORD yet been revealed to him. 8So the LORD called Samuel again for the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, "Here I am, for you called me." Then Eli discerned that the LORD was calling the boy. 9And Eli said to Samuel, "Go lie down, and it shall be if He calls you, that you shall say, 'Speak, LORD, for Your servant is listening.'" So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10Then the LORD came and stood and called as at other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel said, "Speak, for Your servant is listening." 11The LORD said to Samuel, "Behold, (G)I am about to do a thing in Israel at which both ears of everyone who hears it will tingle. 12"In that day (H)I will carry out against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end. 13"For (I)I have told him that I am about to judge his house forever for (J)the iniquity which he knew, because (K)his sons brought a curse on themselves and (L)he did not rebuke them. 14"Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that (M)the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever." 15So Samuel lay down until morning. Then he (N)opened the doors of the house of the LORD But Samuel was afraid to tell (O)the vision to Eli. 16Then Eli called Samuel and said, "Samuel, my son." And he said, "Here I am." 17He said, "What is the word that He spoke to you? Please do not hide it from me. (P)May God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the words that He spoke to you." 18So Samuel told him everything and hid nothing from him. And he said, "(Q)It is the LORD; let Him do what seems good to Him." 19Thus (R)Samuel grew and (S)the LORD was with him and (T)let none of his words fail. 20All Israel (U)from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was confirmed as a prophet of the LORD. 21And (V)the LORD appeared again at Shiloh, (W)because the LORD revealed Himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of the LORD. 1Paul came also to (A)Derbe and to (B)Lystra And a disciple was there, named (C)Timothy, the son of a (D)Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek,2and he was well spoken of by (E)the brethren who were in (F)Lystra and (G)Iconium. 3Paul wanted this man to go with him; and he (H)took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those parts, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. 4Now while they were passing through the cities, they were delivering (I)the decrees which had been decided upon by (J)the apostles and (K)elders who were in Jerusalem, for them to observe. 5So (L)the churches were being strengthened in the faith, and were (M)increasing in number daily. 6They passed through the (N)Phrygian and (O)Galatian region, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in (P)Asia; 7and after they came to (Q)Mysia, they were trying to go into (R)Bithynia, and the (S)Spirit of Jesus did not permit them; 8and passing by (T)Mysia, they came down to (U)Troas. 9(V)A vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of (W)Macedonia was standing and appealing to him, and saying, "Come over to Macedonia and help us." 10When he had seen (X)the vision, immediately (Y)we sought to go into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to (Z)preach the gospel to them. 11So putting out to sea from (AA)Troas, we ran (AB)a straight course to Samothrace, and on the day following to Neapolis; 12and from there to (AC)Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of (AD)Macedonia, (AE)a Roman colony; and we were staying in this city for some days. 13And on (AF)the Sabbath day we went outside the gate to a riverside, where we were supposing that there would be a place of prayer; and we sat down and began speaking to the women who had assembled.
14A woman named Lydia, from the city of (AG)Thyatira, a seller of purple fabrics, (AH)a worshiper of God, was listening; and the Lord (AI)opened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul.15And when she and (AJ)her household had been baptized, she urged us, saying, "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and stay." And she prevailed upon us. 16It happened that as we were going to (AK)the place of prayer, a slave-girl having (AL)a spirit of divination met us, who was bringing her masters much profit by fortune-telling. 17Following after Paul and us, she kept crying out, saying, "These men are bond-servants of (AM)the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation." 18She continued doing this for many days. But Paul was greatly annoyed, and turned and said to the spirit, "I command you (AN)in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!" And it came out at that very moment. 19But when her masters saw that their hope of (AO)profit was gone, they seized (AP)Paul and Silas and (AQ)dragged them into the market place before the authorities, 20and when they had brought them to the chief magistrates, they said, "These men are throwing our city into confusion, being Jews, 21and (AR)are proclaiming customs which it is not lawful for us to accept or to observe, being (AS)Romans."
22The crowd rose up together against them, and the chief magistrates tore their robes off them and proceeded to order them to be (AT)beaten with rods.Cross references:Acts 16:1 : Acts 14:6 Acts 16:1 : Acts 14:6 Acts 16:1 : Acts 17:14; 18:5; 19:22; 20:4; Rom 16:21; 1 Cor 4:17; 16:10; 2 Cor 1:1, 19; Phil 1:1; 2:19; Col 1:1; 1 Thess 1:1; 3:2, 6; 2 Thess 1:1; 1 Tim 1:2, 18; 6:20; 2 Tim 1:2; Philem 1; Heb 13:23 Acts 16:1 : 2 Tim 1:5; 3:15 Acts 16:2 : Acts 16:40 Acts 16:2 : Acts 14:6 Acts 16:2 : Acts 13:51 Acts 16:3 : Gal 2:3 Acts 16:4 : Acts 15:28 Acts 16:4 : Acts 15:2 Acts 16:4 : Acts 11:30 Acts 16:5 : Acts 9:31 Acts 16:5 : Acts 2:47 Acts 16:6 : Acts 2:10; 18:23 Acts 16:6 : Acts 18:23; 1 Cor 16:1; Gal 1:2; 3:1; 2 Tim 4:10; 1 Pet 1:1 Acts 16:6 : Acts 2:9 Acts 16:7 : Acts 16:8 Acts 16:7 : 1 Pet 1:1 Acts 16:7 : Luke 24:49; Acts 8:29; Rom 8:9; Gal 4:6; Phil 1:19; 1 Pet 1:11 Acts 16:8 : Acts 16:7 Acts 16:8 : Acts 16:11; 20:5; 2 Cor 2:12; 2 Tim 4:13 Acts 16:9 : Acts 9:10 Acts 16:9 : Acts 16:10, 12; 18:5; 19:21, 29; 20:1, 3; 27:2; Rom 15:26 Acts 16:10 : Acts 9:10 Acts 16:10 : Acts 16:10-17; 20:5-15; 21:1-18; 27:1-28:16 Acts 16:10 : Acts 14:7 Acts 16:11 : Acts 16:8; 20:5; 2 Cor 2:12; 2 Tim 4:13 Acts 16:11 : Acts 21:1 Acts 16:12 : Acts 20:6; Phil 1:1; 1 Thess 2:2 Acts 16:12 : Acts 16:9, 10; 18:5; 19:21, 29; 20:1, 3; 27:2; Rom 15:26 Acts 16:12 : Acts 16:21 Acts 16:13 : Acts 13:14 Acts 16:14 : Rev 1:11; 2:18, 24 Acts 16:14 : Acts 13:43; 18:7 Acts 16:14 : Luke 24:45 Acts 16:15 : Acts 11:14 Acts 16:16 : Acts 16:13 Acts 16:16 : Lev 19:31; 20:6, 27; Deut 18:11; 1 Sam 28:3, 7; 2 Kin 21:6; 1 Chr 10:13; Is 8:19 Acts 16:17 : Mark 5:7 Acts 16:18 : Mark 16:17 Acts 16:19 : Acts 16:16; 19:25 Acts 16:19 : Acts 15:22, 40; 16:25, 29 Acts 16:19 : Acts 8:3; 17:6; 21:30; James 2:6 Acts 16:21 : Esth 3:8 Acts 16:21 : Acts 16:12 Acts 16:22 : 2 Cor 11:25; 1 Thess 2:2
