1The (A)proverbs of Solomon
(B)A wise son makes a father glad,
But (C)a foolish son is a grief to his mother.
2(D)Ill-gotten gains do not profit,
But righteousness delivers from death.
3The LORD (E)will not allow the righteous to hunger,
But He (F)will reject the craving of the wicked.
4Poor is he who works with a negligent hand,
But the (G)hand of the diligent makes rich.
5He who gathers in summer is a son who acts wisely,
But he who sleeps in harvest is a son who acts shamefully.
6(H)Blessings are on the head of the righteous,
But (I)the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
7The (J)memory of the righteous is blessed,
But (K)the name of the wicked will rot.
8The (L)wise of heart will receive commands,
But a babbling fool will be ruined.
9He (M)who walks in integrity walks securely,
But (N)he who perverts his ways will be found out.
10He (O)who winks the eye causes trouble,
And (P)a babbling fool will be ruined.
11The (Q)mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life,
But (R)the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
12Hatred stirs up strife,
But (S)love covers all transgressions.
13On (T)the lips of the discerning, wisdom is found,
But (U)a rod is for the back of him who lacks understanding.
14Wise men (V)store up knowledge,
But with (W)the mouth of the foolish, ruin is at hand.
15The (X)rich man's wealth is his fortress,
The (Y)ruin of the poor is their poverty.
16The (Z)wages of the righteous is life,
The income of the wicked, punishment.
17He (AA)is on the path of life who heeds instruction,
But he who ignores reproof goes astray.
18He (AB)who conceals hatred has lying lips,
And he who spreads slander is a fool.
19When there are (AC)many words, transgression is unavoidable,
But (AD)he who restrains his lips is wise.
20The tongue of the righteous is as (AE)choice silver,
The heart of the wicked is worth little.
21The (AF)lips of the righteous feed many,
But fools (AG)die for lack of understanding.
22It is the (AH)blessing of the LORD that makes rich,
And He adds no sorrow to it.
23Doing wickedness is like (AI)sport to a fool,
And so is wisdom to a man of understanding.
1"(A)Do not let your heart be troubled; [a]believe in God, believe also in Me.2"In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for (B)I go to prepare a place for you. 3"If I go and prepare a place for you, (C)I will come again and receive you to Myself, that (D)where I am, there you may be also. 4"And you know the way where I am going." 5(E)Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?" 6Jesus said to him, "I am (F)the way, and (G)the truth, and (H)the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
7"(I)If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you (J)know Him, and have (K)seen Him."8(L)Philip said to Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us." 9Jesus said to him, "Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? (M)He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, 'Show us the Father'? 10"Do you not believe that (N)I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? (O)The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. 11"Believe Me that (P)I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise (Q)believe because of the works themselves. 12"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and (R)greater works than these he will do; because (S)I go to the Father. 13"(T)Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that (U)the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14"If you ask Me anything (V)in My name, I will do it. 15"(W)If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
16"I will ask the Father, and He will give you another (X)Helper, that He may be with you forever;17that is (Y)the Spirit of truth, (Z)whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.
